Guess what??? I found one of my sisters!!!!

Yep, that's right!

I found another one of my siblings! This time its a GIRL! Her name is Sofie.

Just look at the cutie!

I hope to meet her one day and take her for a nice long walk or some play time at the dog park!

Imagine, the three of us, Sofie, Ruckus and myself taking over a dog park...

Here is another one of her.

I am pretty sure she will out-grow that nice
bed in just a few months....

I know I already need something bigger.

At the latest vet visit I weighed in at a proud
98 pounds.

Well, that's it for today.
I really hope to find more of my siblings soon!

Oh Boy, OH BOY, Ohhh Boooyyy!!!

You guys are gonna get a kick out of this one!!!

A couple of days ago, my Daddy decided to stop by the Oregon Humane Society just to show me off.
Well, turns out, they all know me there from reading this blog! How cool is that?
But wait, it gets better - MUCH better!

The nice girl at the front desk told us: "Hang on a second, there is someone I know wants to see you!"

Next thing I know a lady comes down the stairs with MY BROTHER!!!

I tell ya, I about fainted, squealed and peed myself!

It was like looking into a mirror!
Ruckus ( cool name, ain't it) is my spitting image!

We are even within a couple of pounds in weight.

Same color, same built, same tail...

Well, we sniffed each other for a couple of
minutes and instantly recognized each other
as brothers!

Amy, Ruckus' mom, was so nice, she took us out through the building and let us play in the back yard!

Obviously everybody we passed was just amazed
and happy to see both of us.

At times they could not even tell us apart!

Too bad Jay didn't have his good camera with him.

The phone camera just does not do us
justice.

I am sure we can do another play date and take better photos.

In the meantime, here is a picture of Ruckus at
work at the Humane Society.

He is just as lucky as I am - he gets to be with his
mom all day just like I get to be with my daddy all day.

Thanks to Amy, I also learned more about my family!

Our actual birthday is March 25th, our mom is a
170 lb St. Bernard and our dad is a 130 lb Rottweiler...

Isn't he a handsome devil? A stud... just like me!

Amy and Jay decided to set do another play-date again soon. Jay is even thinking about organizing a "family reunion" some time next summer.

Maybe the nice folks at the Oregon Human Society can forward this blog to all the nice people
who adopted my brothers and sisters and we can all get in touch with each other and plan on a dog park we can take over for a day!

That would be just too cool!

See y'all very soon!

WOW! It's been a looooong time...

... since I posted here.

Well, you know, busy growing, digging and chasing cats!

Actually, the only thing true, is the growing part.
I am 8 months old now and just hit 90 pounds on the scale. Jay is working on a second mortgage to pay for the food bill!
And I think it's a good thing my tail got clipped right away, anything on the coffee table would be in the line of fire. Heck, a couple of months from now stuff on the dinner table would be at risk!

Diggin' I don't do much because Jay and Cindy obviously don't like me doing it in the yard - I am pulling some weeds though, they don't mind that at all. Go figure...

As for chasing cats, heeeelll NO - those things scare the bejeezus ( is that a word? ) out of me.
The other night I hopped onto the bed and there was Kiki. Next thing I know I got one on the nose... Hey, I didn't see the little brat there!
Oh well, I just give the furry bastard a slightly wider berth for a while.

Anyways, I am doing great and people always stop and give me nice compliments - I guess I am a real stud.
I get a lot of exercise. Between walking in the morning for half an hour, the dog park in the afternoon for a couple of hours and the half hour walk at night I am burning calories like Arnold in his prime. And I look just as ripped too.
As a matter of fact, those Great Danes at the dog park don't have a prayer anymore!
I guess it pays off that Jay takes me out no matter what the weather is like - sometimes I think he is a little crazy when he drags me out in the freezing rain. I would be happy to just do my business in the back yard!

Since I posted last time, I found out that the AKC actually recognizes me as an official mix-breed. They call me a St.Weiler - how lame is that? St. Bernweiler is OK, Rottenard is fine too. But St.Weiler??? GIVE ME A BREAK!

Thanksgiving was sorta bummer because I didn't get to go with Cindy and Jay to the bay area, but I got to stay with my friendly neighbor Tom and visited his family with two big dogs. I really like Tom and it all went well. But I think he was not too happy when I tried to dig out one of his brand new Rhododendrons - Hey, I thought it was a weed...

After 5 days away, I was glad to see mom and dad again, but I made sure not to show it too much. Well, after a milk bone and a good walk I caved in and loved them again.
Go ahead, call me "easy"...

Sorry, but I don't have any recent pictures for this post other than what is on Jay's cell phone - the quality sucks and I deserve better!!!
I'll make sure he takes some soon.

What's happening to the weather???

Well, seems summer is over!
But I have to tell you, I just LOOOVE the cooler temperatures and even the rain.
Jay, and Cindy especially, might not agree with me but they don't wear a fur coat 24/7...

The coolest thing is wet grass. I just love to roll in it and get the dust off. There is a nice fresh smell in the air ( and on every fire hydrant and bush along our regular walking route).
I just might have to add a couple of blocks to the walk.

The cooler weather has also added to my naturally bouncy disposition. Really, I am bouncing so hard, I think I am going to hit the ceiling one of these day.

Being 5 1/2 months old now, I figured I can do away with the baby stuff and start acting more like a teenager.
This, of course, gets me in trouble with Jay on a fairly regular basis.
Just because I left the cat food alone for a couple of weeks and walked on the leash like a pro, kept my distance from the cat, slept on my own bed and generally behaved like good puppy does not mean I can't start testing the limits a bit more. ;)

But Jay keeps a pretty good eye on me and he does not let me get away with too much.

The food here is very good and I keep putting on the pounds - I think I am up to 65 lbs now - still no end in sight.

Dog park news:
Well, not much there except for me still being terrified of Max - they can all tell me to relax and not be afraid all they want - that little bugger is scary. But just wait another 2 or 3 months and I'll be big enough....

On the brighter side, I started playing with a pretty big black lab called Ollie.... We go at it pretty good and usually are covered in slobber and dirt from snout to tail within minutes.
Its a great work out though and I love it!

Well, that's it for today.

Another update

Well hello there!

It's been a while since my last entry and I thought you guys must be jonesing some news about my life....

Over the last couple of weeks I have continued to eat, sleep, play and grow.

I went to the Vet last week just for a treat and a quick jump on the scale - 60 pounds!

Looks like the Vet scale will work for a couple more months but then Jay will have to take me down the freeway and find a truck scale...

I also still get a lot of training every day. I now know "shake", "down", "stay" and " LEAVE THE CAT ALONE!"

Just kidding, the cat and I get along just fine and
we even get to share the bed some times.

I can just see how this will work in the winter when it gets cold.

Cindy and Jay might have to move to the
guest room.

I also keep meeting new people and dogs at the dog park. I get along just great with most of them.

But I really got scared by one of the smaller ones. Max is his name. I guess he had found some old bone and thought I was considering taking it away from him - like I need some stinking old bone...

Just look at the little guy snarl...

Next thing you know some Akita actually stole the bone when Max wasn't watching.

I happened to be in the general area and Max assumed I had stolen his bone.

He got really mad at me and gave me a good scare.

Thank goodness nobody took a picture of that....

Anyway, I thought it smart to seek help from Jay.

"Daady, Max is being mean to me!!!"

I ran into Max the next day again but trust me, I kept my distance - you never know with those unstable personalities...

In other news, I also got my first REAL doggie bath. Water, soap and all.

I am not too keen on the hosing down and rinsing parts but the
shampooing and massage are just awesome. I can take that any day.

Besides, it's still a nice way to cool off on a hot day.

So that's it for now. But before I forget, why don't ya'll check out my complete online photo album at http://www.kodakgallery.com/I.jsp?c=13gd75ur.2sgra53b&x=0&y=-605yid

There are some pretty funny ones...

I got hosed...

... well, in a good sense!

Today was one of those really hot days where I just could not find a cool enough spot.

Jay was watching me and decided it was time to introduce me to water.

I think his idea is to gradually introduce me to getting a dog wash every now and then.
Thankfully he did not use any shampoo yet...

I got really wet and it cooled me down very nicely.

Una mas, por favor...

Also, I got my first e-mail today!
Bob was kind enough to take the time - here is the conversation we had:

Bob wrote:

Dearest Newman,

Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Bob and I'm a friend of the man known as Jay. Please sit down (SIT !) as what I am about to tell you may come as quite a shock: Jay is not your Father. He is an egomaniac disguised as your Father. Looking forward to meeting you one day: in the meantime, looking out for your best interests.

Your New Friend,

Bob

This is Bob...

And this was my reply (I know he doesn't really mean what he says about Jay):

Hi there Bob,

nice to meet ya!

Jay has told me "a lot" about you....

I promise, we'll get to meet soon -well, just as soon as I am fully grown to about 170 pounds, have passed my K-9 unit training and have been fed on chopped liver for a couple of months.

Maybe then we can "discuss" my relationship with Jay as well as his character....

Meanwhile, keep checking my blog at http://bigdognewman.

Really, e-mails are very nice and I'd like to get more of them - I promise to reply!!!

Dog Park Adventure

Hi Gang!

I got to go to the Dog park again today!
And this time Jay actually remembered to bring his camera!!!
There sure where some interesting characters around.

This guy here was a little "confused" - to put it politely!

But I told him and everything went well from there on out.

Even though it was a "slow" day at the park, I managed to meet a few new pals.

All the butt sniffing was just too much fun!
And as you can see, we do it "weery efficiently!"

This guy, even though very handsome, better watch out - his snobby attitude won't get him on my good side. Give it another 5 or 6 months and
I'll be ready to have a "discussion" with him...

Abby and I where diggin' for gold...
Unfortunately we only found China.
Oh well...

This little bugger here is only one month younger
than I am but feisty as they come.

Where does she come off trying to steal MY water that I just stole from the Great Dane???

Get in line, missy!

And after the dog park I get to go across the
street and wallop for a while in the nice cool
and wet grass! Get's the dust off me too!

But of course I still have to stay alert and keep an eye out for the action at the park...

Well, folks, that's it for today.

Stay tuned and make sure to leave a comment or two for me!!!

Frisbee for me?

Just a quick update!

Yesterday we all (well, minus the cat... ) went to Portland's Washington park for a hike.
That was a lot of fun.

We took a break on a big lawn and there where 3 guys throwing a Frisbee around.
Very interesting! These guys where really good. I just sat there and watched.

Cindy must have noticed how my head followed the Frisbee back and forth because later on, at home, she came back from the store with a brand-spanking new Frisbee just for ME!

She took me to the back yard and started tossing it. So I thought I would humor her and ran after it and then laid on it.

Of course that was not what she had in mind. She saw some dogs catching the things in mid-air...

What do I look like? A Border collie? I DON'T thinks so....

My first post on my first Blog!

Hi there guys!
Allow me to introduce myself:
My name is Newman and I am part St.Bernard and part Rottweiler. So, that makes me either a St.Bernweiler or a St. Rottnard - I like both and let you choose. That's kind of my personality anyways.

I was born sometime early April of 2007 so my dad made it April first. Yeah, he thinks he is a really funny dude.

Today its been 2 weeks since I got adopted by Jay and Cindy from the Oregon Humane Society. I have settled in very nicely and feel
very safe and comfortable.

There even is a cat in the family and we are getting along great.
His name is Kiki and he pretty much rules the neighborhood.

He got a little cranky the first couple of days because I ate his food...
But I know better now and we kissed and made up. Once in a while I let him have a bite from my bowl - hey, how much can a cat eat?

My owners are great too. Jay works from home so we spend a lot of time together and have bonded very well. He definitely is the alpha dog around here.
The first few days I was pretty much glued to his heels and he showed me the house and the great yard behind it.

At night I get to sleep right next to the bed. Jay started to look a little tired in the mornings after taking me out back to potty twice every night, so I decided I can do this myself now. He is very happy with me... I haven't had an accident in the house since last weekend!

I also got to meet all the neighbors and get along with everybody. Especially Tom next door. He used to own big dogs and I love to spend time with him.

But yesterday a guy in a big brown truck and brown shirt and shorts rolled up to the driveway and I didn't know what he was all about. So I gave him a good growl and a couple of barks - he backed up nicely. But then Jay told me he is the UPS guy who comes by here every now and then to deliver or pick up something. Jay also made him give me a treat. Well, I guess he is on the OK list now.

We go on walks every morning and evening and I love it. I am very good on the leash - I was a little afraid of leashes when I got here - but now I know whenever I see the leash it means we are going somewhere fun. I actually come and sit when Jay picks it up so he can hook it up easily.

Some times we go to Starbucks. I have to wait outside for Jay to get his coffee but he always comes back after just a few minutes so I am not worried at all. I met some very nice people there. Some are little ones, human puppies I guess, and Jay taught me to let them pet me. He always makes sure they are gentle with me and I am gentle with them. I also got to visit Cindy's office and everybody was really nice there. When we first got there I had no problem going up the stairs. Coming down was an entirely different story! Eventually Jay gave up and we took the elevator down. Hey, as a 4 1/2 months old puppy I still get my way sometimes...

Yesterday I got to go to the dog park the first time. My Doctor said it's OK because I had all my shots a few days back. He also says I put on 5 pounds in 6 days and should grow to around 150 pounds in time - I am not sure why, but most people get a silly look on their face when they hear that.....
The dog park was just great - I made a lot of new friends - big and small - and can't wait to romp around there again soon.
Jay says we'll do it at least twice a week.

He also takes me out to play at least twice a day. My favorite toy is the squeaky ball Cindy brought me home the other day. We play fetch with it and I have learned to sit, get it, come, bring and shake. I guess I am a very smart dog.

When Cindy comes home from work she sometimes brings me a new toy or treat and we always play for a while. Girls are fun to play with!

She comes along on the evening walks too. Sometimes even the cat follows us for a block or two.

I also get to ride in the big truck. That's fun because we always go somewhere fun and interesting. I am still a little clumsy on my feet so its easier to just lay down on the blankie in the back and munch on a pig ear... There is also a step box so I can get in and out easy.

Well, thats it for today. I have to get online to research some puppy training courses and also order some treats for me and Kiki.

Ruff for now!
